SAADIYAT CONSTRUCTION VILLAGE

The Saadiyat Island Village houses 20,000 construction workers and operations staff in 4 identical clusters of accommodation buildings comprising of more than 4,300 steel framed modules and incorporating 290,000 square metres of insulated sandwich panel.

Specon’s scope of works on the project involved the complete MEP works on a design & build basis for the accommodation blocks, a large industrial kitchen, diners, laundry, reception building and prayer halls, as well as all associated infrastructure works including the chilled water plant, domestic cold water & treated sewerage effluent systems and fire-fighting services. The village is designed to international standards for space per capita, food preparation and laundry facilities. It features accommodation spaces, kitchen, dining, recreation facilities, prayer halls and shops. It also features ample green space, including a cricket pitch.

The project was lost-time injury free (LTI Free), with a total of 6.5 million man-hours worked over 1,000 work-days. It received the ‘Metito GCC Social Project of the Year’ award at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2012.
