Brief overview of the Project

Specon, nominated by the client as the preferred MEP contractor of the project, is responsible to deliver the MEP works for what will become the largest integrated hotel complex in the Middle East. The Al Habtoor City project comprises the construction of 3 hotels; Fashion Hotel – W (27 levels), Luxury Hotel – St. Regis (6 levels) and the Main hotel – Westin (37 levels), a 1400 seat Las Vegas-style “aqua” theatre, 3 large basement levels, Ground and Mezzanine levels and a large car park (2290 cars). The 3 hotels will be managed by Starwood and will have in total 1623 units. The total built area is approximately 390,000 m2 plus 27,000 m2 of Provencal-style gardens.

The scope of MEP works includes the supply, installation testing and commissioning of standby generators with Automatic Transfer Switches, LV distribution, small power, earthing and bonding systems, lightning protection system, UPS, MDBs, MCCs, fire alarm & suppression systems, chilled water system served by district cooling and airside works including AHUs, FCUs, CAVs, VAVs, CCUs, fans, ductwork with required accessories, sound attenuation, filtration, thermal insulation and final distribution via air inlets and outlets, hot water generation via oil fired boilers and distribution, fire fighting works including Class III standpipe system, sprinklers network, clean agent protection and foam system, Building Management System (BMS), domestic water storage, treatment and distribution, drainage systems and liquid petroleum gas system.

The new development is located on the site of the old Metropolitan Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road at the southernmost point of the “Old Town” development, which includes the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall.
